About Locals Singkoor
Locals Singkoor was founded in 2023 in Hanover Park as a Cape Malay choir with a mission to preserve cultural traditions and uplift the community. Since then, it has grown into a registered NPC and NPO, built a leadership structure, competed in Malay choir boards, won major recognition through the New Hope Gender Malay Choir Board, and began the process of joining the Cape Malay Choir Board.
Through its music, leadership and community work, Locals Singkoor continues to create opportunities for young people and adults to belong, perform, learn discipline and take pride in their culture.

Brief History and Track Record

Locals Singkoor was established in 2023 by a father-son team in Hanover Park: Daniel Adonis, Jayden Adonis and Zhiyaad Van Dyk. The organisation was founded to continue the cultural footsteps of previous generations while opening opportunities for younger singers and musicians from Hanover Park and surrounding areas.

In its first competitive season, Locals Singkoor made a strong statement by winning the sectional competition and placing within the Top 10 overall in the Naziem Benjamin Cup. This demonstrated both the talent available in the community and the value of focused coaching, structure and commitment.

Locals Singkoor has consistently prioritised the development of local and inexperienced performers instead of relying only on established professionals. This approach gives young and developing members a platform to learn vocal technique, phrasing, diction, discipline, teamwork and stage confidence.
